mortar board benefits

  • GATORBACKS ARE ENGINEERED

The GATORBACK's patented dished, lipless work area allows masons to get a trowel full of mortar without friction, snags or loss of material. To maximize daily production, a mason must maintain a consistent, natural range of motion without wasted movements. Moreover, the mortar needs to be highly workable. As a result, the GATORBACK's unique design provides a smooth working surface that will not absorb water from mortar, but will extend the mortar's boardlife, ultimately increasing a mason's production. Because the dished area is centrally located, this pan effect also retains the mortar and any additional water added for retempering.

    Q. "HOW WILL GATORBACK BOARDS INCREASE OUR PRODUCTIVITY?"

"Because the water stays on the board and the mud stays tempered longer and more consistent, common sense tells you that increased productivity will come. One thing is for sure; the tenders don't have to work their asses off shaking up the mud. I'm pretty sure we will be getting more."

  • GATORBACKS ARE DURABLE

A good tool must be durable and built to last. GATORBACK mortarboards are injection molded from a hybrid blend of impact resistant materials to withstand the abuse of masonry crews. This mortarboard will not absorb water nor allow mortar to form a thick, permanent bond and can be kept clean with a hit of a hammer. The board can take heavy blows in both summer and winter (above 30 degrees ambient temperatures).

    Q. "WILL THEY HOLD UP OVER TIME?"

"When our Gatorbacks arrived at the site, some of the masons said, 'they look great, but won't hold up!' So I grabbed one and hit it about 15 times as hard as I could with my 12 oz brick hammer. Now I'm 6'4" and weigh 235, and after giving it all I had, I looked at the board and all I could see was a little nick on the surface.that proved to us they'll last!"

  • GATORBACKS ARE PORTABLE & LIGHT

The handle on the GATORBACK is deliberately positioned to enable masons and tenders to carry their mortarboards at their sides, vertically, in an ergonomically correct method. Considering each board weighs just 5.5 pounds and is less than an inch thick, a mason or tender can effortlessly transport 8-10 GATORBACKs at one time (4-5 per hand) without back strain or stress. What's more, the handle makes daily job site clean up easy and quick which prevents your Gatorback boards from being left behind or stolen. This is a tool not a plain old piece of plywood. In addition, the handle is perfectly sized so as many as 80 to 100 boards can be slid on the forks of a jobsite lift and elevated to crews working on scaffolding.

    Q. "HOW DO I JUSTIFY THE COST OF GATORBACKS?"

"The Gatorback boards save us money not only due to the life of the board in relation to cost, but also in labor savings. Years ago we used both wood boards and metal boards in the past but they simply don't compare to Gatorbacks. They're lighter, last a lot longer, and all of our masons say they keep the mortar more workable and consistent in the warm weather."

  • GATORBACKS ARE A GREAT INVESTMENT

If your people are your greatest asset, reward and motivate them with the best tools-especially tools that last for years. GATORBACK mortarboards are good assets for your company and they show your masonry team you care about them AND the quality of their work. If you think your masons and tenders are good now, give them GATORBACK boards and watch their daily production increase significantly!

    Q. "WHAT ABOUT MORTAR WORKABILITY & BOARDLIFE?"

"It gets extremely hot here in Phoenix, but I can honestly say we're getting at least 20 additional minutes of boardlife out of our mortar, which is a lot longer boardlife than the steel boards I used before.it just stays fresh longer. We're all very impressed with them...they're the way to go!"
